The Maine Council for the Social Studies
Annual Conference

Social Studies on the Front Burner:
Blending Economics into K-12 Curriculum

October 23rd — Abromson Center, University of Southern Maine, Portland
October 26th — Morgan Hill Event Center, Hermon

On the evaluation forms from the November 2008 conference, there was overwhelming support for smaller regional conferences, and Economics was the most requested theme. In response to this feedback, the Maine Council for the Social Studies in collaboration with the Council on Economic Education will be offering two regional conferences involving Economics and how to incorporate this subject into K-12 social studies curriculum. The registration cost will be $35.00 per person.

Attention Current Teachers of Social Studies:

Would you like to give back to your profession and share your knowledge of social studies?

The Maine Council for the Social Studies has a project for you...

Become an online Social Studies mentor for another Maine teacher!

All mentors who are assigned a new teacher to work with will be given a free membership to the Maine Council for the Social Studies for the 2008-2009 school year.  The Council will also send assigned mentors a certificate to be used toward recertification credits at the end of the school year.

Please apply for this exciting project today!  The application link includes more information about the project.
