Risk Management Services

MMA’s Risk Management Services staff of insurance professionals provide all underwriting, member services, claims and loss prevention services to program participants.  The financial condition of the programs is excellent and includes sound financial management and the purchase of high quality reinsurance.  Each program is managed individually and overseen by its own board of elected and appointed municipal officials.

Property and Casualty Pool

This program provides members with a broad range of property and casualty coverages at favorable rates.  Coverage is uniquely designed to provide public entities with the protection of the Maine Tort Claims Act immunities and limits of liability.  In addition, the program also provides Public Officials and Employment Practices Liability coverage against civil claims or suits made for actual or alleged wrongful acts. 

Workers Compensation Fund

This is a group self-funded program designed to assist members in managing their workers compensation costs through effective claims management and loss prevention activities. 

Unemployment Compensation Fund

A self-funded program that serves as a liaison between participants and the Bureau of Unemployment Compensation in the handling of unemployment claims.

In addition to the three programs listed above, members have the ability to discuss coverage or risk management matters at any time with certain RMS professional staff.  RMS also has the ability to assist members in placing unusual exposures through an exclusive arrangement with its broker.

Tip of the Week

Tip:  Is your OSHA 300 Log Summary completed?  Public sector employees are required to record information regarding employee occupational injuries and illnesses. The summary  “300A” must be completed and posted by February 1st and must remain in place until April 30th.  For additional information, please contact RMS, Loss Control, or Maine Bureau of Labor Standards.
