Task Description
Students need to practice their observation skills.
Select several topics in the development of Maine, such as the agricultural products, shipbuilding, or lobster industries and have students research pictures of that industry.
Rules and regulations go alongside these pictures. What actions has the Maine Legislature taken in that particular industry?
Student Product/Performance
Students could lead a class, talking about their industry, its development, and the laws regarding it today. Students could research and invite someone from the community to talk about an industry.
After the presentations, students would be directed to view/observe a local site that was once connected (or is still connected) with an industry and write about their observations.
Resources
Local historical societies
Criteria for Evaluation
Students interest in the class, the logical presentation and information collected would serve as a measure of the successful completion of the project.
Students would read their observation reports in class.
