 Fighting fires and providing the means for safely disposing of solid waste is what immediately comes to mind when one thinks about what local government does to provide for the common good. But it is also about providing for:
  • waste water disposal and safe drinking water
  • social services, recreation and libraries
  • street lights and road maintenance

Providing for the Common Good focuses on the tools available to local government, be it through a mandatory recycling ordinance, curbside pickup of trash, the drilling of a well, workfare, or the purchase of public lands. It is also about providing the service at an affordable cost.
