TIPS ON FORMAT:

1. Format is the form you give your publication; it is the framework; it influences image and efficiency.

2. Formats are one, two or three column; the more columns, the more flexibility you have and the easier it is to read.

3. You can modify each type by combining columns but avoid being too complicated or fancy especially at first. It makes unnecessary work for you and your readers.

TIPS on TYPE:

1. Select one type and stick with it; vary boldness and size, especially with headlines 14 or 18 point. 2. Familiar type faces for body copy promote efficient reading. New or unusual designs detract from the content.

TIPS ON CHARTS:

1.    Keep charts simple

2.    Don't manipulate the data

3.    Use simple helpful wording; title should be informative

4.    Identify source

5.    Tie the chart in with the text
