PowerPoint: Page Setup and Printing Options
BACK Table of ContentsNEXT Tips before starting a presentation

Basically the "Page Setup" and "Print" under "File" works just like other programs; however, there are a few differences you might want to use.

Under "Page Setup" you can change the slide orientation from "Landscape" to "Portrait." "Landscape" is the default and the setting that you want to use when projecting or showing the presentation. You can switch to "Portrait" however and this might be an advantage when printing since it puts the information into a more readable format for notebooks.

Printing Option Tips:

1. Select "Black & White" unless you are printing in color. This will save ink.

2. Pay special attention to the "Print what" drop down options.

Print what:

Slides will print one slide per page.

Handouts will produce material for you to use with the audience. Three per page will give them lines on which to write notes.

Notes Pages are for you to use. You insert your speech notes into the program as you develop it and use this printout as notes to yourself.

Outline View will present the text, without graphics, as an outline. You can use this view when writing and organizing the presentation.
