MMA's Annual Convention

Summer has just started but planning has already begun for
October 7th & 8th when the 2009 Annual Convention comes
to Augusta.

Our theme is "Looking Up in Down Times" and a program is
being planned that will do just that! We already have two
special half-day workshops and an inspiring speaker.

Information will be constantly updated in our Convention Area
which is linked from MMA's homepage

Read about the Convention plans as they develop and
enter a drawing to win a free 2-day registration!

Maine Townsman - More Available Online

The Maine Townsman articles have been available online for
several years, but now the current year's issues, as printed,
will also be available. You can access the full PDF version,
including ads and graphics, from the Maine Townsman page.

The current month's articles and an article archive search
engine will still be available on that page.

"Trainer of the Year" Award

We are pleased to announce that Farmington Selectman
Stephan Bunker, Maine’s 9-1-1 Operations Manager, and a
member of the MMA Executive Committee will be receiving
international recognition as he is awarded “Trainer of the Year”
at an upcoming conference for the Association of Public
Safety Communications Officials International
.

Maine 9-1-1 dispatchers provide us with life-saving support
services.  Their responses, often during stressful situations,
depend in large part on the quality of the training that they
receive.  Because of their training, dispatchers are ready to
deliver life-saving services whenever we pick-up the telephone
and call for help.

Please join MMA as we congratulate Steve on this
prestigious award for his exemplary work in training
Maine’s 9-1-1 dispatchers.

Significant Wildlife Habitat Outreach Program

Maine Audubon, in partnership with the Maine Department of
Environmental Protection and the Maine Department of Inland
Fisheries and Wildlife, has developed an outreach program to
provide information on Significant Wildlife Habitats.

They are targeting audiences interested in the ecological
importance of marshes, wetlands, beaches and vernal pools.
A 45 minute slide show describes the wildlife that lives in
these habitats, and why the new rules adopted to guide
development activities in these habitats are so critical.
Along with the slide show, there are three companion fact
sheets that summarize information and provide references for
more detailed information.

If your organization is interested in scheduling a presentation
or can provide a venue for a presentation to your community,
please contact bwilson@maineaudubon.org.  The fact
sheets can be distribute locally if a presentation is not
possible.
