Geoffrey McCarren has been namedWoolwichfire chief, replacing Kenneth Desmond, who resigned last December for personal reasons. Jake Kaiser served as interim chief until the part-time position could be filled permanently. McCarren, 36, is a local businessman who has served as a volunteer firefighter for the town since 1991.

LincolnTown Manager Glenn Aho has been named the new Auburn city manager.  Aho replaces Patricia Finnigan, who left Auburn last June to become Portland assistant city manager. Laurie Smith will continue as acting manager until Aho takes over in June.

Fire Chief John Woulfe has tendered his resignation in Rumford to take the job of assistant director of national programs for the International Association of Fire Chiefs in Washington, D.C. He has been Rumford fire chief since 1999 and considers the move the next step in his lifelong career in the firefighting profession. Longtime Rumford firefighter Richard Coulombe, 45, has been named interim fire chief.

Troytown meeting voters and municipal officials surprised retiring Town Clerk Janet Cropley during last month’s town meeting, presenting her with numerous gifts that included a quilt patched with photos Cropley had taken for the town’s annual report over the years. Cropley served as town clerk for 27 years.

Miloselectmen have hired Jeff Gahagan as the new town manager.  Gahagan, 53, is former president of Maine Savings Credit Union.

Union Town Manager Andrew Hart has been named Knox County administrator, replacing William Post, who resigned in February to accept the job as Waldoboro town manager. Hart has served as Union town manager since 1994 and was chosen from 14 applicants for the county position.  Meanwhile, State Senator Christine Savage, who is ending a 20-year career in the Maine Legislature, will serve as interim town manager after Hart leaves on May 2, according to town officials.

Dorothy “Dot” Mason, 88, closed the books on a municipal career, that started in 1956, in Carthage last month when she declined to stand for re-election after 52 years as town treasurer.

Mary Sabins has been named the new Vassalborotown manager to replace Michael Vashon, whose resignation takes effect at the end of June. Sabins, of Union, has 20 years of experience in local government, including working as town manager of Windsor and Chelsea.

Scott Seaver, formerly a 26-year administrative assistant in North Yarmouth, has been hired as interim town administrator for the town of Chebeague Island. Seaver replaces Ron Grenier, who resigned last month.
