The city of Saco, Maine is actively recruiting for a dynamic, analytical and collaborative City Planner whom will report directly to the Planning and Development Director.
The City of Saco is located at the mouth of the Saco River in southern Maine along the Atlantic Ocean, less than 20 minutes south of the Greater Portland Area, and less than two hours north of Boston, Massachusetts. Home to a growing population of 19k+ residents, a revitalized and repurposed mill district, world-class education system, a picturesque downtown, a thriving economy, and many recreational opportunities, including fishing, hiking, biking, and kayaking, the City of Saco has plenty to offer residents, visitors, and businesses alike.
The City Planner reviews development projects for compliance with municipal land codes, standards, and design guidelines; answers general citizen inquiries; and acts as the primary liaison to the Planning Board. The person filling this position will assist in guiding or assisting various types of planning projects, such as comprehensive planning and implementation, transportation projects, and adding or updating zoning and ordinance amendments.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
A Bachelor’s degree in community planning or a related field and five to seven (5-7) years of experience in a professional planning or economic development position OR a master’s degree in Public Policy, Planning, Business, Economics or a related field and two to four (2-4) years in a professional planning or economic development position. The ability to communicate effectively (written and verbal) and work independently on daily functions is a must, as is honesty and integrity. AICP certification is desired.
