Director of Parks and Recreation
The City of Sanford is seeking a highly qualified candidate to fulfill the position of Director of Parks and Recreation.
The Director of Parks and Recreation is a complex, professional and administrative position, responsible for the planning, development, implementation, supervision and evaluation of the City’s parks, recreation, trails, cemetery and dam’s activities, programs, operations, facilities, and staff. In addition, the position is expected to proactively develop and institute new programs that are based upon the needs of the community.
The position also requires considerable independence, initiative and judgement to accomplish both the City and departmental goals and objectives. The position will serve as the primary spokesperson on behalf of the City for all parks and recreation department matters. The successful candidate must be well organized, possess excellent communication skills and possess the ability to coordinate in a positive manner with other City departments, elected officials, civic groups, volunteer boards, committees and the public, by promoting positive community relations, public awareness and media relations.
Work is performed under the general supervision of the City Manager and/or his designee.

The successful Applicant must be a proven professional with a minimum of a Bachelor Degree in Parks and Recreation Management, Public Administration, or a related field. Master’s degree preferred. In addition, applicants must possess six (6) or more years of increasingly responsible experience in parks and recreation or a similar field, including three to four (3-4) years of managerial experience. The preferred applicant would also possess the Certified Parks and Recreation Professional (CPRP) certification with the National Parks and Recreation Association.
