SENIOR ENGINEER -
Public Works Department - Engineering - (Development Review/Project Management) - This is a full-time senior level position in the Engineering Division. The Department of Public Works is seeking a highly-motivated team member with primary responsibility for reviewing development plans for engineering practice and City specifications compliance. The position provides highly skilled professional level work in municipal engineering, land development, and construction. The successful candidate will become a key Public Works representative among various Departments involved with development activities and provide reliable, timely, and courteous service to a wide range of customers. Applicants must have ability to present project information, schedules and work detail to a diverse audience. Work involves organizing & analyzing data; conducting team review sessions, and responding in timely and thorough fashion. Position is also responsible for preparation and approval of design plans, specifications, and estimates for civil engineering projects; preparation of strategic work plans, administration of consultant and construction contracts, and administration of project budgets in accordance with established protocols. The position must exercise a high degree of independent judgment, perform complex assignments, and provide regular assessment & status updates. Applicants must have proven experience developing and maintaining effective working relationships with other employees, agencies, the development community, and in addressing constituent issues in a timely, courteous, and tactful manner. Applicants must have excellent communication, customer service, and supervisory skills in addition to proficiency in use of contemporary technology.
Requirements: Graduation from a four-year college or university with specialization in Civil Engineering; a minimum of five years progressively responsible experience in land development, and considerable experience and knowledge of the principles and practices of municipal engineering. Position requires registration as a Professional Engineer in the State of Maine, or ability to gain registration within six months thru reciprocity. Must possess a valid State of Maine Class C driver’s license (must provide license number on application) and have and maintain a clean driving record. Training and experience desired includes working knowledge of GIS software & applications; strong organizational and interpersonal skills, and facilitation and consensus-building skills. Pay Range depending on experience – plus up to 6% for Professional Engineering certification.
