The Maine Municipal Association (MMA) is currently accepting resumes for the position of Director of State and Federal Relations. This Senior Management position is responsible for advocating on behalf of MMA’s nearly 500 municipal government members and building partnerships with the state and federal levels of government.
Responsibilities include directing and carrying out MMA's advocacy program through representation of municipal interests before the State Legislature and rulemaking agencies, coordinating MMA's legislative policy making process with direction from MMA’s 70-member Legislative Policy Committee, monitoring and analyzing municipal issues, drafting legislation and supervising and coordinating an advocacy staff of four. The Director also drafts and delivers legislative testimony, prepares communications to Maine’s Congressional delegation, participates in legislative and state agency directed studies and writes and edits numerous policy papers, action alerts and contributions to MMA’s publications.
The successful applicant will be conversant with municipal government issues and have considerable experience in public policy development, advocacy and/or inter-governmental relations, excellent verbal and written communication skills, plus a degree in Public Administration, Political Science, Law or a related field.
