Code Enforcement Officer, Building Inspector, LPI, E911 Addressing Officer 

 

The Town of Sabattus is seeking qualified applicants for the position of part-time Code Enforcement Officer.  This position involves the issuance and inspection of land use, building, and plumbing permits.

Applicants certified as a Code Enforcement Officer with proven customer service skills and experience with MUBEC desirable.  The Town will consider all applicants.   The chosen candidate must be able to obtain full certification within a Six (6) month period

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Reviews all plans submitted with building permit applications according to the established timetable and process to ensure that all plans are in compliance with the appropriate municipal, state, and federal ordinances and regulations.  Issues building permits to appropriate applicants according to established procedures to ensure that building construction is in compliance with the appropriate municipal, state, and federal ordinances and regulations. Collects fees authorized by the municipality. Inspects buildings and other structures for structural safety, fire safety, sanitation and other standards and requirements according to established inspection procedures to ensure the safety of those buildings.  Performs all plumbing inspections as the Licensed Plumbing Inspector under state guidelines.  Initiates and enforces rules and regulations and initiates legal action in relation to the enforcement of the municipal codes and ordinances according to established procedures in order to ensure compliance with appropriate codes and ordinances.  Enforces the State Shoreland Zoning laws in accordance with the procedures contained therein. Enforces and administers the state mandated MS4 Stormwater program as directed by the Maine DEP under federal EPA requirements.  Keeps a complete record of all essential transactions of the office, including applications submitted, permits granted or denied, variances granted or denied, revocation actions, revocation of permits, appeals, court actions, violations investigated, violations found and fees collected.  Analyzes municipal codes and zoning ordinances and make suggestions to the Planning Board to ensure that the codes and ordinances are maintained in a current manner.  Attends all meetings of the Planning Board /Zoning Board of Appeals and provides information concerning cases which are presented upon request of the Boards in order to assist the Boards in making decisions.  Staffs the Ordinance Review Committee and provides administrative duties for the committee.  Actively promotes business development according to the Sabattus Comprehensive Plan and the goals of the Planning Department / Town Government. Investigates complaints of alleged violations of local land use laws and negotiates compliance agreements.
