Job Summary:

The City of Portland is seeking a self-motivated, organized and skilled individual to enforce all aspects of the City’s Long Term and Short Term Rental requirements and Rent Control Ordinances.
 

Duties & Responsibilities:

• Reviews Long-Term and Short-Term rental housing registrations for compliance with all City and State codes

• Communicates with Landlords and tenants to assist with navigation of Rent Control

• Responds to general inquiries from the public and handles complaints regarding Rent Control, as well as Long-Term and Short-Term Registration violations

• Prepares accurate inspections reports which summarize general facts, indicates violations of code, and describes proper corrective action

• Holds informal hearings with the owner/manager to make them aware of the problem.

• Maintains all appropriate plans, records, indexes and files. Testifies in court as an expert witness in some cases where voluntary compliance is not achieved

 

Required Skills & Experience:

• Uses a computer and other office equipment to fulfill job responsibilities

• Experience in administering government regulations is a must

• A strong background in Housing Safety is required

• Administrative experience and graduation from a four-year college or university or any equivalent combination of training and experience is required.

• Must have a valid Maine class C driver’s license and personal vehicle for use during site inspections

Salary & Benefits:

This is a union position, CEBA Grade 18M-SP, Starting pay $1,312.88/week, commensurate with experience.
