Code Enforcement Officer / Building & Plumbing Inspector / Health Officer / Addressing Officer
The Town of Hebron (Population ~1,200) is seeking a responsible, self-motivated individual to serve in a multi-role position that includes Code Enforcement Officer, Building Inspector, Plumbing Inspector, Health Officer, and Addressing Officer.
This is a part-time, as needed position ideal for someone with strong attention to detail and the ability to work independently. The successful candidate will be able to interact professionally with property owners, and contractors to ensure compliance with local and state codes and ordinances.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Enforce municipal codes, zoning ordinances, and land use regulations
- Inspect building and plumbing installations for code compliance
- Conduct health and safety inspections and respond to health-related concerns
- Assign and manage physical addressing in accordance with E911 standards
- Maintain detailed inspection and enforcement records
- Issue notices of violation and work with property owners on remediation
- Attend occasional select board or planning board meetings as needed
Qualifications:
- Knowledge of Maine State Building and Plumbing Codes (or ability to become certified)
- Familiarity with municipal code enforcement practices
- Ability to interpret and explain local ordinances and state laws
- Strong communication, organizational, and record-keeping skills
- Certification or willingness to obtain certification as a Code Enforcement Officer in Maine
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior experience in municipal inspection or enforcement
- Basic computer skills for documentation and communication
- Ability to interact with the public in a professional and respectful manner
Position Details:
