This is a line staff level position, responsible to the Corrections Supervisor of the Two Bridges Regional Jail in Wiscasset, Maine.  The Corrections Officer ensures a high quality direct supervision corrections facility to providing for the car, custody and control of inmates.  

The Correctional Officer supervises inmates to ensure a safe and humane environment; handles inmate discipline fairly and effectively; responds to inmate requests in a fiar and balanced fashion; builds positive rapport and personal credibility with inmates; supervises inmates in a clear, well-organized and attention-getting manner; resolves inmate problems and conflects; and maintains effective administration and staff relations.

If you are at least 18 years of age with a high school diploma or it's equivalent and are looking to start a career, then we want to talk to you!  No experience required!  All training will be provided by the facility.

Starting wage $26.52 (no experience)  - up to $31.44 with experience; additional $.25/hour for Associate's Degree/ $.50 for Bachelor's Degree

If you are required to work on a holiday, you will receive one and half times your hourly rate for each hour worked in addition to eight hours of holiday pay at your regular hourly rate.

Annual earned leave accruals

• Up to 5 years of continuous service - 160 hours
• After 5 years of continuous service - 200 hours
• After 10 years of continuous service - 240 hours
• After 15 years of continuous service - 280 hours

Applicants will be required to:

• Successfully submit an application (form available at tbrj.org)
• Pass an onsite Oral Board interview
• Pass an onsite physical agility test (.5 mile run in 5:30 or less + mannequin drag)
• Pass the Maine Criminal Justice Academy's ALERT test (offsite and responsibility of applicant - http://www.maine.gov/dps/mcja)
• Pass a background investigation, polygraph, psychological examination, and medical screening
• Pass an onsite final interview with the Correctional Administrator
