The Town of Wells is seeking a Full-Time Assistant Tax Collector.  The Assistant Tax Collector is responsible for performing administrative, clerical, and technical work in the collection and processing of taxes and fees due to the town. The employee is required to perform all similar or related duties. This position reports to the Finance Director.

The successful candidate must have the ability to get along with others in a professional manner; excellent customer service skills; considerable knowledge of modern office practices, procedures, and equipment thorough knowledge of the correct use of English grammar – punctuation, and spelling; thorough knowledge and skill in operating a personal computer and applicable office software specifically Word and Excel, excellent organizational skills.

The candidate must possess a combination of education and experience equivalent to a high school diploma or equivalent with administrative course work and one to three (1-3) years related work experience in an office environment.

Licenses/Certifications/Other:

  • Ability to be bonded and be certified to process Motor Vehicle transactions by the State of Maine within six (6) months of appointment.
  • As a condition of employment, the employee is required to pass a personal background examination.

The Town of Wells offers an excellent pay and benefit package. This is a full-time position with a starting salary of $21.51-$24.20 per hour, based on experience.  Other incentives and benefits include Health, Dental, Short-Term Disability, Life Insurance, and 457/401K matched retirement or Maine Public Employees Retirement (MainePERS) as well as an incentive-based Wellness Program.
