The City of South Portland, a forward-thinking community of over 27,000 located on scenic Casco Bay in southern Maine, currently anticipates an opening to lead our Bus Service Department. This is an opportunity to join a well-run city and play an important part in serving our community. We are seeking an experienced and innovative professional to join the leadership team of the City and to oversee the bus service functions for the City.
Position Summary: This is highly responsible managerial and administrative work in planning, organizing, and directing the activities of the South Portland Bus Service, a fixed-route public transit operation. Work involves responsibility for the administration and direction of multiple disciplines and programs coordinated to provide timely, reliable, and safe public transportation services to residents and visitors of South Portland and the greater Portland region.
Work is performed with considerable discretion, initiative, and independent judgment under the broad policy guidance and general supervision of the City Manager. Directly supervises Operations and Maintenance Supervisor and oversees all employees of the Bus Department.
Education: Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university required. Major or extensive course work in public or business administration highly preferred.
Experience: Five (5) years of experience in public service programs, including considerable high-level supervisory and administrative experience in public transportation or any equivalent combination of training and experience.
Must possess and maintain a valid State of Maine Class “C” driver’s license throughout employment.
Must have flexibility and ability to work evenings, weekends and holidays as needed or requested.

Salary range: $84,468 - $100,484 annually, depending on experience. The position is eligible for annual step increases, and possible annual cost of living increases as approved by the City Council, including 3% for this coming July 1.
