The City of South Portland is seeking a Parks Maintainer to join an innovative, proactive and dynamic workforce with a demonstrated commitment to excellence in municipal service in the Parks Department. 

This is a union position performing a variety of semi-skilled and operational work in the construction, repair and maintenance of parks and grounds.  The successful candidates must have a strong working knowledge of tools, vehicles and methods used in a variety of activities associated with landscape horticulture, parks maintenance, recreational facilities and City buildings and grounds. Some overtime may be intermittently available.

High school diploma or GED and two (2) years of post-secondary education in Plant and Soil Technology, Field Turf Management or related field or, alternately, a high school diploma or GED and  (3) years of  prior work experience in Parks, Greenhouse Operations, Landscape Horticulture, Field Turf Management required.  Qualified applicants must possess a valid Maine Class “B” driver’s license or the ability to obtain within the first six (6) months of employment.  State of Maine First Class Landscape Arborists License preferred upon hire, or must have the ability to obtain within the first eighteen (18) months of employment.  State of Maine Commercial Pesticide Applicators License with categories 3A, 3B and 6B also preferred upon hire, yet must have the ability to obtain within the first eighteen (18) months of employment.

Candidates shall have the ability to work a non-traditional work schedule which may include evenings and weekends.
