      DISPATCHER OPENING Knox County Regional Communications
Overview & Schedule The Knox Regional Communications Center (KRCC) is currently looking for an eager, dedicated individual interested in a career in emergency communications. Dispatchers handle requests for all law enforcement, fire and emergency medical services received via 9-1-1, telephone, intercom, and radio. The dispatcher also documents calls using computer software systems and established protocols. Dispatchers frequently interact with people who are agitated and under stress, and must have the ability to remain calm.


This is a 24/7 9-1-1 call center and requires availability for 10-12 hour shifts and day, evening, night, and weekend availability. Schedule will be determined after training requirements have been met.


Qualifications Applicants must be high school graduates or equivalent, be able to type at least 40 wpm, have excellent communication skills, and be willing to submit to both psychological and polygraph examinations. Certification and experience are preferred, but we are willing to train an otherwise qualified candidate. Applicants must be open at the outset to work any shift (including overnights and weekends). Shifts are bid based on seniority, so over time employees can select the shift they prefer.


Compensation The starting hourly pay range is $27.70 - $35.19 ($18.70 - $26.19 plus an hourly stipend of $9.00 on each hour worked). Wage is determined depending on prior related experience. The County provides an excellent benefits package to full-time employees, including health insurance fully paid for the employee and 75% paid for dependents, paid vacation and sick leave, retirement plan with a 7% County contribution, and other voluntary benefits.
