MRWA is hiring for a full-time Wastewater Circuit Rider

Maine Rural Water Association is a non-profit trade association offering statewide training and services to the water utility community. We are a member-based organization created in 1979 with the goal of providing technical assistance and training to small water and wastewater utilities. MRWA also advocates for our members' interests at the local, state, and federal levels.

We are unique among trade associations in that we provide hands-on technical assistance. Our Water and Wastewater Circuit Riders, Training Specialist and Sourcewater Protection Specialist are federally funded. We also have 2 small water system circuit riders that are funded by the State of Maine.

Our Mission is to be known as the leading provider of quality training and technical assistance.

 

Position Title: Wastewater Circuit Rider

Supervisor: Deputy Director

 

Job Summary:

The MRWA Wastewater Circuit Rider will provide technical assistance to wastewater utilities throughout the state of Maine. This person is required to meet all deliverables set forth by the federal government for this program, including, but not limited to, a minimum of thirty (30) contact hours per-month, organizing various training opportunities, and traveling to necessary National Rural Water Association training events. The ideal candidate will have extensive knowledge of the wastewater industry in Maine and a passion for assisting and improving the industry.

 

Essential Job Functions:

  • Develop annual operating plan inclusive of types of anticipated technical assistance
  • Secure no fewer than thirty on-site contact hours per month throughout program year
  • Participation in out of state NRWA events
  • Accurately account for time, travel and daily activities through various log programs
  • Respond to after-hours emergencies
  • Performs all other duties as assigned

Education/Qualifications:

  • Minimum Grade II Wastewater license
  • High School Diploma with relevant work experience – Bachelor’s Degree preferred
  • Valid Driver’s license and has proof of insurance required
  • Comfortable with extensive travel throughout the state. Two times annually attend NRWA events throughout the country.

Job Related Experience:

  • 5 plus years of wastewater operations required
  • Preferred candidate will have knowledge of various types of wastewater treatment
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suites

Skills and Abilities:

  • Extensive knowledge of wastewater processes and best practices
  • Ability to communicate effectively with operators and regulators
  • Willingness to enthusiastically function as a part of a team
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills
  • Proficiency in regulatory compliance testing, methodology required
  • Ability to read and interpret permits, standard operating procedures and best management practices
  • Must have ability to read, write, speak, and comprehend the English language

 

Physical Abilities and Environmental

Traveling to utilities and hotels (some overnight travel), flexible work hours. Extended workdays may be required to accomplish tasks and meet workload demands during peak periods. Requires extended periods of driving (sitting), some walking or standing, computer keying, working at a desk, and viewing spreadsheets and other written material. Ability to stand, walk, as well as talk, see and hear. There is also the potential for kneeling and lifting of objects up to 50 lbs.
