The City of South Portland is currently seeking a 22.5 hour a week Part-time Assistant City Clerk to join our City Clerk’s office. The City of South Portland currently has a 4-day workweek (Monday-Thursday). The schedule for this position will include 22.5 work hours over 3 days each week, with work hours scheduled Monday through Wednesday. We are looking for a positive person to join our dynamic team. This role is ideal for someone who would enjoy working with the public in a role that connects citizens and other City staff, and who enjoys multi-tasking and doing something different every day.

Position Summary: Assist in the operation of the City Clerk’s Department. The primary responsibility is to cover the functions of the information desk area and provide support to the office operations.

Education: High School diploma or equivalent required. 

Experience: Must have two years of customer service experience. Prior experience in a municipal customer service role highly preferred. Knowledge of Centralized Voter Registration, processing Electronic Birth and Death certifications, Moses Program, MUNIS, and Microsoft Access preferred – with training provided as needed.

A flexible schedule to permit additional work hours for several weeks leading up to an election, assisting during co-worker vacations, or other needs, is required.

Starting Salary Range: $18.40-$20.97/hour depending on experience.  The position is eligible for annual step increases, and possible annual cost of living increases as approved by the City Council.
