The City of South Portland, a forward-thinking community of over 27,000 located on scenic Casco Bay in southern Maine, is seeking a Master Electrician for the Water Resource Protection Department. This is an opportunity to join a well-run department and play an important part in serving our community and helping to protect the environment. We are seeking an experienced and innovative professional to join the wastewater treatment and pumping team of the City and to oversee the electrical functions for the department.

Position Summary: This position is responsible for skilled work in the installation, maintenance, assessment and repair of all electrical and control components in the city’s wastewater treatment facilities, to meet the needs of keeping the department’s electrical infrastructure operational and current to applicable codes. Will complete and coordinate routine and preventative maintenance, inspections, and electrical repairs. Will assist in the Capital Improvement process and specifications for major repairs, renovations and construction, and monitoring of contracted work. This candidate will be the subject matter expert on electrical and wiring for the Water Resource Protection Department. Will also develop, monitor and implement infrastructure evaluation and recommend replacement needs for the wastewater treatment facilities. This positon will also utilize asset management and work order software.

Work is performed with considerable discretion, initiative, and independent judgment under the broad policy guidance and general supervision of the Maintenance Supervisor.

Education and Licensure: High School Diploma or equivalent is required.  Graduation from a 2 year degree program such as a trade school highly preferred. Possession of a valid license as a Master Electrician as issued by the State of Maine is required.

Experience: At least 2 years minimum performing work as a Master Electrician in a municipality, commercial, or industrial setting is highly preferred.

Must have familiarity with or the ability to quickly learn systems such as security, fire, generators, automatic transfer switches, HVAC, VFD’s and SCADA systems. The successful candidate must have computer proficiency and be able to quickly learn computer software applications, to include Asset Management software.

Must possess and maintain a valid State of Maine Class “C” driver’s license throughout employment.

Salary range: $64,100.60 to $77,916.80 annually, depending on experience. The position is eligible for annual step increases, and possible annual cost of living increases as approved by the City Council.
