Driver/Laborer – Weld Public Works
The Weld Public Works Department is seeking a motivated, reliable, individual to work on various projects alongside the road commissioner. These include repair of various pieces of equipment, mowing along the roadside, running chainsaws, operating heavy equipment such as, backhoe and dump trucks, rock rake and any other equipment used along with operating snowplow equipment in the winter, all with the goal of ensuring the traveling public is safe on Weld roads. Manual labor is an integral part of the job as well. In addition, you would be working as traffic control, clearing brush, installing culverts, cleaning ditches, hauling gravel, sign repair and replacement, and other road maintenance tasks. The qualified applicant will be “on call” along with the Road Commissioner through the winter months.
The Town of Weld is currently seeking one full-time employee that is 18 years of age or older and who holds a valid Maine CDL driver's license. The position will require you to work some nights, weekends, and holidays during snow events and weather emergencies as well as being on call in the winter months. Pay for our position is $20.64 an hour with over time in the winter. The budget for this position reflects year-round employment at 40 hours per week with overtime as needed in winter months. Candidates interested in regularly scheduled part-time employment are also encouraged to apply. The Town of Weld offers a generous health insurance plan, vacation time, and paid holidays. There will be a 6-month probationary period for the employee to be evaluated. After that time a full-time permanent position may be offered.
