This session will give us ARPA rule updates, ARPA close out including the SFA, and how to survive a grant audit tips and tricks .

Presenter: Amanda Methot-Vigue, Methot Method Consulting 
Amanda holds a law degree and has been a member of the Maine State Bar since 2017. Additionally, she has a master’s in social work and worked in direct care prior to switching careers.  Amanda has always had the goal of using her law degree to create large scale change for disenfranchised populations and struggling communities. She found that working with communities and non-profits to maximize their federal funds did just that. 

Prior to starting Methot Method Consulting Amanda was the Housing and Community Development Compliance Officer for the City of Portland. She managed roughly $15 million in federal funds and spearheaded the best plan of action for roughly $40 million of COVID recovery funds.  She left the city to work for Bernstein Shur in their municipal practice group. Amanda has helped countless municipalities navigate ARPAs numerous rule updates and ensuring reporting compliance.

Join us for a discussion on the legislative updates related to tax and finance.

Presenters: Amanda Campbell, Legislative Advocate, MMA
Amanda joined the dynamic Advocacy & Communications team as a Legislative Advocate at MMA in July 2023 with a varied background and a ton of experience. She holds a Special Education degree from the University of Maine at Farmington and ran a retail quilting establishment for 13 years before beginning her career in municipal government. Most recently, Amanda was the Town Administrator for the coast­al town of Georgetown and served on MMA’s Legislative Policy Committee. She started in Georgetown in 2015 as the deputy clerk/tax collector and progressively rose through the ranks end­ing her career there as the key municipal official.

11:00am – 11:50am    Maine Paid FMLA
This session will provide an overview of the law and regulations on the new Maine Paid FMLA requirements, along with upcoming milestones for implementation of this new benefit for Municipal employees.

Presenter: Jack Bjorn, Attorney, Eaton Peabody
Jack is an Associate in Eaton Peabody’s Employee Benefits and Labor & Employment Practice Groups based in Portland, Maine. Jack counsels clients in all aspects of employee benefits, executive compensation, retirement benefit divisions, wage and hour issues, FMLA, employee discipline, discrimination, and labor negotiations. Jack’s work includes assisting employers with the operation and maintenance of both tax-qualified retirement plans and plans for tax-exempt and governmental entities, and Jack has an active practice preparing qualified domestic relations orders for individuals going through divorce. Additionally, Jack regularly assists private and public employers, colleges, and universities with general employment compliance issues such as health regulatory policies and procedures, employee handbooks, paid family and medical leave, employment contracts, and other labor and employment issues.

Presenter: Lisa Parker, GASB
Lisa Parker is a senior project manager with the Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB). Prior to joining the GASB in 2008, Lisa worked for Runyon Kersteen Ouellette CPAs for 10 years, the town of Old Orchard Beach, Maine as finance director and interim town manager for 2 years, and the city of Saco, Maine as finance director for 8 years.

Difficult people can be a challenge. A difficult person can change the whole look and feel of your workplace, your home, or your social group. In this workshop, we will highlight 10 common types of difficult people, discuss strategies to deal with them and learn valuable lessons about yourself along the way.

Abby DiPasquale, MPH, MCHES
Abby has been a Health Promotion Coordinator with Wellness Works at the Maine Municipal Employees Health Trust for almost 20 years. Outside of work, Abby is married to her college sweetheart (Doug) and together they are raising two amazing girls (Olivia-15 and Evangeline (Gigi) 11). Abby serves on the Board of Directors for the PMG Awareness Organization, a global non-profit that seeks to raise awareness and promote research on polymicrogyria (PMG)- a rare brain disorder that her oldest daughter was born with.

But above all else, she is a human being just like you!
