The Town of Cumberland has a full-time opening for an Accountant. This position performs professional and technical accounting work by managing the financial activities and accounting functions, assists the Finance Director with annual budget preparation and the annual financial audit, and develops and distributes internal financial reports. Engages in the daily operations for accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash receipts, general ledger, and payroll functions for the Town. Work is performed with considerable independence under the supervision of the Director of Finance following established procedures and regulations, and with the exercise of judgment and initiative. Work is checked by observation, verification, internal controls, and through fiscal audits and reports.

This is a highly responsible position related to the financial operation of the Town of Cumberland. The successful candidate must be self-motivated with the ability to work independently, well organized with strong attention to detail, able to multitask and prioritize workload, proficient with computers, exhibit strong written and oral communication skills, and ability to work collaboratively.  Associate’s degree or substantial course work in business administration, accounting, finance, or related field required (essential). Minimum of 5-7 years of government accounting experience or an equivalent combination of education experience (essential). Solid knowledge of principles of GASB and Excel is needed (essential). Prior experience in municipal/government finance (preferred).
