Job Summary:
Join a team that enhances the safety and quality of life of Portland’s residents, visitors, and workers. The City of Portland seeks a full-time code enforcement officer or electrician to work both independently and as part of a team to enforce plumbing, electrical, life safety, and building codes (Maine Uniform Building and Energy Code - MUBEC), and other city ordinances.
Duties & Responsibilities:
• Knowledge and experience in building code administration and enforcement.
• Ability to read building plans.
• Ability to communicate effectively with the public to resolve code violations.
Required Skills & Experience:
• Must have excellent customer service skills to be able to work with a diverse base of property owners, architects, engineers, contractors and the general public.
• Knowledge and experience in building code administration and enforcement, building trades and construction, general inspection work, and/or plan review.
• Must have Maine Code Enforcement Certification, or the ability to obtain within 6 months of hire, in legal issues, land use, internal plumbing, subsurface wastewater disposal, and building, energy, radon, and ventilation standards.
• Must have a valid State of Maine Class C driver’s license, a vehicle for daily work use, and must have and maintain a good driving record.
Preferred Skills & Experience:
• Familiarity with computer programs and laptop/field tablet equipment.
• Journeyman or Master Electricians are encouraged to apply.

Salary & Benefits:
This is a union position, CEBA, Grade 18M-SP, Starting pay $1,312.88/week, commensurate with experience, plus an additional 6% stipend if certified as a Maine Master Electrician or Master Plumber.
