City of Portland - Senior Human Services Counselor, Retention
Health and Human Services Department-Social Services Division (Homeless Services Center)
Full-Time, Permanent Position, 37.5 Hours
The Schedule for this positions is Monday-Friday (Nights) from 10AM– 6:30PM. In addition, a monthly two-hour staff meeting is required.
This is a supervisory position at the state’s largest homeless shelter and related overflow sites. The candidate hired into this position is responsible for overseeing operations of the state’s largest homeless shelter in collaboration with a team of employees including shelter attendants and shelter security guards. Other duties in this position involve Intake paperwork, data quality assurance and communication with senior management.
Requirements:
• A positive attitude with exceptional patience and excellent customer service skills is required.
• This position will also be responsible for ensuring neighborhood safety checks are completed regularly.
• Preference will be given to those who have experience working in a homeless shelter and with individuals with substance use and mental illness.
• Previous supervisory experience is also preferred.
• A Bachelor’s degree in social work or related field; or commensurate work experience preferred.
• Valid Class C Maine Driver’s license required.

Salary & Benefits:
This is a non-union position, Grade B25 - Salary starting at $28.72/hr.
