SENIOR HUMAN SERVICES COUNSELOR – RIVERSIDE SHELTER -

Health and Human Services Department - Social Services Division – 166 Riverside Street Shelter -

Full-Time, Project Position, 37.5 Hours 

Schedule is Tuesday-Friday, 7:00am-5:00pm.  In addition, a monthly two-hour staff meeting is required.

This is a supervisor position responsible for overseeing the operations of the newly created homeless shelter at 166 Riverside industrial Parkway.  This new shelter will primarily serve asylum seeking individuals; experience working with asylum seeking populations is strongly preferred. The position requires direct supervision of shelter attendants.  Additional job responsibilities include completing intake paperwork with clients, data quality assurance and regular communication with 166 Riverside Street senior management. A positive attitude with exceptional patience and customer service skills required.  This position will also be responsible for ensuring neighborhood safety checks are done regularly. Experience working in a homeless shelter preferred. Supervisory experience in a homeless shelter or social services position preferred.  A Bachelor’s degree in social work or related field; or commensurate work experience preferred. 

Requirements: Experience with homeless or low income/at risk case management and excellent customer service skills. Experience with housing placement of homeless or at-risk populations, mental health issues, and other barriers to self-sufficiency preferred. B.A. degree in Social Services or equivalent combination of education, experience, and training. Valid Maine Class C driver’s license (please provide license number) and personal vehicle for work use.  Offers of employment are contingent upon the completion of a satisfactory criminal background check.  Non-Union position - Grade B25 - Starting pay rate $27.88 hourly.
