The City of South Portland is currently seeking a 37.5 hour a week (four-day workweek) full-time Economic Development Project Manager for our Economic Development Department. Position Summary: The Economic Development Project Manager performs a wide variety of professional-level work related to business retention and expansion, marketing and promotion of South Portland and its business community, and other activities intended to improve the economic vibrancy of the community. The Project Manager coordinates the Economic Development Department’s outreach to the business community through its various communication channels including email, social media portals, newsletter, and website as well as planning for Economic Development Department events throughout the year. The Project Manager is often the initial point of contact within the office and provides excellent customer service to current and prospective businesses, real estate brokers and developers, and residents. The Project Manager will work closely with other City departments from start to completion of the application and permitting/licensing process. They will participate in efforts to streamline and constantly improve this process in order to promote South Portland as a business friendly community. The Project Manager will assist the Economic Development Director with a variety of additional complex work.
Education: Must have a Bachelor’s degree in economic and community development or in a closely related field, including, but not limited to: business administration, management or leadership, community planning, entrepreneurship, finance, marketing, project management, historic preservation, or real estate development OR have previous full time employment in a municipal economic development or related field that will be counted on a year-for-year substitute basis in place of the required education.
Experience: Minimum of three (3) years of professional experience in economic and/or community development or other relevant field/work experience is required. Candidates possessing a graduate degree in community planning and development or related fields and having less than three years of work experience in the field may be considered.

Salary Range: $33.90 - $38.77/hr ($66,105 – $75,601 annually) depending on experience. This position is eligible for annual step increases, and possible annual cost of living increases as approved by the City Council.
