The City of South Portland is currently hiring Seasonal Grounds Maintainers to join the Parks Department.
The duties for this position will involve all aspects of seasonal landscaping work, such as planting and removing bulbs, weeding, pruning, mulching, raking and other landscaping tasks. Position also has responsibilities for grounds maintenance (push mowing, string trimming, edging, vegetation management etc.) at City owned parks and green spaces as well as maintaining City owned storm water treatment systems. May also perform daily clean-up of parks grounds to include picking up trash and emptying trash cans.
Knowledge of safety rules and practices for grounds maintenance operations are of most importance. Applicants may perform laboring duties in adverse weather conditions and for extended hours.
These positions will run from approximately April through November. The regular schedule is a 40 hour work week and may include weekend hours.
Communication and interpersonal relation requirements include the ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions, keep essential records and to cooperate effectively with supervisors, co-workers and outside contacts. Prior grounds maintenance and experience with tools utilized is highly preferred and a valid Class C license is required. Will operate various Class C non-commercial vehicles and equipment, i.e. one ton truck, various mowers, golf carts, string trimmers, tillers as well as various power and hand tools.
The hourly wage for this position ranges from $17-20/hour, depending on experience.
