Do you have experience conducting building inspections or possess extensive knowledge of the construction industry or a related field, with the ability to confidently and tactfully apply that knowledge in code enforcement duties? If so, we want to hear from you! The City of Augusta is currently seeking a Code Enforcement Officer to perform both technical office and field work. This role involves inspecting private and public properties to ensure compliance with state and local codes related to building, zoning, and land use. The Bureau of Code Enforcement is responsible for interpreting and enforcing ordinances and codes, educating the public, resolving complaints, maintaining accurate records, and providing staff support to boards relevant to code enforcement. This position works under the supervision of the Director of Code Enforcement and involves extensive interaction with the public. Requirements Two (2) year college certificate, or equivalent. Minimum of one (1) year related professional experience. Must have the ability to obtain State of Maine certification in Shoreland Zoning, Land Use and Zoning, Residential Building Code, Commercial Building Code, Residential Energy Code, Commercial Energy Code, Residential Ventilation Code, Commercial Ventilation Code, and Residential Radon Code within 12 months of hire. Preference will be given to candidates who currently meet CEO certification standards; however, training will be provided for the right candidate. Compensation & Benefits This full-time (40 hours/week), non-exempt hourly position offers a comprehensive compensation and benefits package, including paid time off. The FY25 pay range for Teamsters General Government Range 19 positions is $65,228 to $86,528 annually, with an annual cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) and the potential for merit-based step increases. The actual rate of pay will depend on experience, qualifications, and budget availability. The City contributes 80-84.5% of the premium cost for health, dental, and vision plans depending on coverage level. The City also provides a Health Reimbursement Arrangement (HRA) to help cover the deductible of the Pemaquid Health Plan. Individuals covered by an alternative equivalent health plan are eligible for an annual medical buyout in lieu of coverage (currently $2,400 - $3,600 based on coverage eligibility) and employees who choose the Pemaquid Health Plan are eligible to receive a 2.75% increase in base wages. The City of Augusta participates in the MainePERS Plan AC, which is a defined benefit retirement plan. Employees do not pay into Social Security. Employees earn paid vacation, sick leave, and 13 paid holidays per year and have access to participate in medical and dependent care Flexible Spending Accounts, life insurance, short-term disability, 457(b) retirement plan, tuition reimbursement, and more.
