Code Enforcement Officer

The Town of Stockton Springs is seeking a qualified candidate for part time Code Enforcement Officer for 1-2 days a week including occasional evening meetings. This position reports directly to the Town Manager. The position includes the titles Local Plumbing Inspector and E-911 Addressing Agent.

Duties will include issuing permits, performing site inspections, enforcing state and local ordinances, maintaining accurate records, communicating with appropriate state and local agencies as needed, recommending to the planning board appropriate review of ordinances and shoreland zoning, as well as providing service by phone, email, and mail regarding the Town of Stockton Springs.  The Code Enforcement Officer serves the Zoning Board of Appeals.

The candidate must be comfortable with computers for issuing permits and communicating with applicants, and shall maintain thorough records and have strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Candidates are expected to carry out their responsibilities with independence and confidentiality while demonstrating strong problem-solving skills and professional judgment.

Applicants must be certified as a Code Enforcement Officer/LPI, or must be in the process of, or committed to, getting certified and passing the certification exams in the required disciplines (plumbing, subsurface waste disposal, building, shoreland, etc) within one year of employment.

The candidate must possess a valid State of Maine driver’s license with a good driving record.

The town is open to sharing a part time CEO with a nearby town and sharing the cost of employee benefits for a full-time position.
