Community Development Program Coordinator

 

The Town of Orono, with a population of approximately 11,000 and the home of the University of Maine, is seeking a highly motivated and organized individual to fill the role of Community Development Program Coordinator. This position offers a unique opportunity to support and contribute to the growth and development of the Orono community. The ideal candidate for the Office of Community Development (which includes code enforcement, planning, economic development and assessing) will be a highly organized and detail-oriented individual with strong computer, written, and verbal communication skills. The self-motivated candidate will also have problem-solving abilities and experience or knowledge in planning, code enforcement, and economic development activities.

A high school diploma or state-recognized equivalent with at least two (2) or more years of relevant knowledge and professional experience required; a Bachelor’s degree in Geography, Urban/Regional Planning, Sociology, Economics, Data Analysis/Statistics, Political Science/Public Policy, Public Administration, or related degree with relevant coursework preferred. This is a full time 40 hour a week (4 day work week (Mon-Thurs)) position with ability to work occasional evening meetings. The Town of Orono offers a competitive salary and benefit package including health insurance, paid holidays, vacation and sick leave, and participation in the Maine Public Employees Retirement System.  Starting wage is $25.00 per hour for qualified candidates. This position is part of Council #93 American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) Bargaining Unit.
