The Town of South Berwick is seeking a qualified candidate to fill the position of Deputy Town Clerk/Registrar of Voters in the Town Clerk’s Office. This is a full-time, 33-35 hours per week position, with hours Monday-Thursday and the occasional Friday. Responsibilities include assisting the Town Clerk in the administration of motor vehicle registrations, dog licensing, hunting and fishing licensing, vital records, and the administration of fair and accurate elections. The Deputy Town Clerk/Deputy Registrar of Voters position will be required to work the polls during elections, attend Town Council meetings in the absence of the Town Clerk, and assist the Town Clerk in all similar or related work as required.
The successful candidate must have the ability to get along with others in a professional manner; provide excellent customer service; maintain confidentiality; possess a thorough knowledge and skill in operating a computer and applicable office software, excellent organizational skills to manage a demanding workload, and a working knowledge of the principles of modern public administration, and records management techniques. Accuracy, attention to detail and proficiency in cash handling are required.
Candidates must possess a combination of education and experience equivalent to a high school diploma or equivalent, with an associate degree preferred, and a minimum of three (3) years related work experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job.
Licenses/Certifications/Other:
- Must be a resident of Maine.
- Notary Public, or the willingness to become a Notary Public.
- Marriage Officiant, or the willingness to become a Marriage Officiant.
- Familiar with Trio software desired but not required.
The Town of South Berwick offers an excellent pay and benefit package.
Pay commensurate with experience in the range of $24-28. Applications accepted until filled.
