The City of Old Town is accepting applications for the position of Part-Time, As-Needed Electrical Inspector. This flexible position plays a vital role in ensuring the safety and compliance of electrical systems in residential, commercial, and industrial properties throughout the city.

Position Overview:
The Electrical Inspector performs field inspections of new and existing electrical installations to ensure compliance with the National Electrical Code (NEC), State of Maine regulations, and City ordinances. This position is part-time and on an as-needed basis, with flexible scheduling. Availability during regular weekday business hours is required, with occasional evening or weekend availability during emergency situations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct inspections of electrical systems in residential, commercial, and industrial buildings.
- Ensure compliance with NEC, state laws, and municipal codes.
- Investigate complaints and identify potential electrical hazards.
- Maintain accurate inspection records and provide clear documentation and reports.
- Communicate effectively with contractors, homeowners, and City personnel.
- Stay current on applicable codes, safety practices, and regulatory updates.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED.
- Valid State of Maine Master Electrician License.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in the electrical trade or as an electrical inspector.
- Valid Maine driver’s license with a clean driving record.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working in municipal code enforcement or inspections.
- Strong knowledge of Maine building and safety codes.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Professional, detail-oriented, and self-motivated.
Schedule & Compensation:
This is a contracted, as-needed position. Hours will vary depending on inspection demand, with primary availability expected during normal business hours (Monday–Friday). Evening and weekend work may be required during emergencies.
Compensation is competitive and based on experience and qualifications.
