The Town of Hampden is seeking applicants for a full-time police officer. Hampden Public Safety is a community-centered agency committed to providing professional and progressive public safety services.
Requirements and Qualifications: Applicants must be able to successfully complete medical, psychological and polygraph examinations, pass an extensive background investigation and may need to meet the Maine Criminal Justice Academy Physical Fitness Standard.
Benefits: The Hampden Police Department offers a competitive wage/benefits package, excellent retirement options and opportunities for advancement and professional growth. There are several supervisory positions along with a school resource officer, investigator, and a Maine Drug Enforcement representative. We encourage and support specialized training to include DRE, MARC, and accident reconstruction.
Wages: Current rate of pay is $29.11 to $37.15. As of July 2025, the rate of pay is $30.57 to $39.01 plus COLA. A lateral entry at the discretion of the Director of Public Safety is available based upon training and experience.
Health Insurance: Maine Municipal Employees Health Trust PPO 2500 with 90% Med-A-Vision Plan. The Town pays 100% for the employee and 70% for a family plan.
Retirement 20-year Maine State Retirement Plan 1C; or MissionSquare with a 10% (non-matching by the employee) contribution by the Town. The Town will contribute an additional .5% with an employee contribution to the MissionSquare 457 Plan.
Vacation: Up to 234 hours per year based on years of service. Vacation time is available immediately at the discretion of the Director of Public Safety.
Holidays: 13 paid holidays.
Education Incentive: The Town agrees to pay tuition costs for one course per semester up to a Baccalaureate Degree.
Sick Leave Incentive: The Town will make available retirement medical benefits offered under MissionSquare. The Town will contribute 8 hours per month upon the employee accumulating the maximum sick time hours of 960 hours.
