Marine Resources Technician

The Town of Brunswick Coastal Resource Office is seeking a part time marine resources technician to participate in several ongoing locally applied marine research projects. This position will be assigned to the Town’s Coastal Resource Office and work closely with the towns resource managers, environmental planners, and marine wardens.  Experience with Excel, Global Information Systems, shellfish aquaculture, municipal shellfish management, and data collection is preferred.  Any of the following experience would be a bonus, small vessel operations, SCUBA diving, operating data collection devices (microscopes/meters), water quality collection, pollution identification, and shellfish analysis.  

Requirements:

  • Strong oral and written communication skills, including ability to document daily activities, and describe methods used during research
  • A high level of self-confidence, strong organizational skills, and superior attention to detail
  • Comfortable entering and reviewing data sets in Microsoft Excel or similar for quality control
  • Some Experience with small boat operations in coastal environments
  • Ability to work in all types of weather.
  • Physical ability to walk long distances across intertidal zones including mudflats, beaches, and rock outcrops.
  • Experience working safely on ocean-going vessels in challenging conditions

Compensation: $19.00 – $22.00 Based on Qualifications and Experience
