The Town of Cape Elizabeth has a full-time opening for a Mechanic. The Mechanic works under the direct supervision of the Public Works Garage Foreman and under the general supervision of the Public Works Supervisor. This is a full-time position that requires excellent communication skills and technical ability. The position performs skilled mechanical work on a variety of town owned vehicles and equipment.  Responsibilities include diagnosing defects of automotive and mechanical equipment; inspects, adjusts and replaces parts of complex gasoline and diesel engines; makes repairs through welding and cutting torch; and performs painting and body work as necessary.  Successful applicant shall have proven work skills and possess tools to make necessary repairs. The ability to perform manual tasks is required. The ability to work extended hours may be required during the winter months. State of Maine Vehicle Technician Certifications, along with a commercial driver’s license Class B (CDL) license, are preferred (or the ability to obtain them within six months). Candidates with certifications in Medium/Heavy Truck/School Bus Repair are preferred.
