Part-time Environmental Department Operator-Assistant

The Town of Thomaston is seeking qualified candidates for a part-time operator-assistant position (20 hours per week.) This entry-level position performs a variety of tasks, technical skills, and maintenance work for the municipal wastewater collection, pumping to treatment system, town lighting, solar array, and the town trail system. The position is under the supervision of the Environmental Department Superintendent.

The successful candidate must possess the following:

1. Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
2. (1-3) years of experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
3. A valid State of Maine driver’s license.
4. Familiarity with elementary principles of chemistry and general science.
5. Ability to learn principles and procedures relating to the operation of a water treatment plant.
6. Ability to develop skill in the operation of pumps, valves, and related mechanical equipment.
7. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions, and to communicate effectively.
8. Willingness to learn and use equipment and tools related to the job.
9. An understanding of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic equipment preferred.
