Scarborough Police is a community-oriented department that thrives on serving our 22,000 plus residents. Patrol Officer’s schedule is based on a four-day work week. After successful completion of our FTO process, officers will immediately be placed to an assigned team and work in a full-time patrol officer capacity. Officers are given the option of wearing a traditional policing style uniform or an external, load bearing vest carrier style uniform. Our new state of the art public safety building includes a dispatch center, fitness room, crime lab and training rooms. The Scarborough Police Department offers many specialty positions, including, Criminal Investigators, Federal Drug task Force officer, SWAT, Honor Guard, School Resource Officers, Special Enforcement, K9 Officers, Community Resource Officers, Traffic Enforcement Officers, Drug Recognition Experts, Motorcycle Officers, Drone Pilots and more!

The Scarborough Police Department is seeking motivated people who want to be part of our growing department. We will offer an expedited hiring process to those who are Maine certified full-time officers or those who hold the equivalent academy from out-of-state. Competitive lateral transfer packages that include pay equivalent to full time service years of experience. For applicants that are not certified, we will facilitate that certification process.

EXCELLENT BENEFIT PACKAGE:
The Town of Scarborough offers a competitive starting hourly rate for first year officers at $33.39 and up to $44.99 per hour for lateral applicants plus ample overtime opportunities!  Officers will be eligible to participate in a physical fitness and wellness incentive ($1.00/hr) beginning on April 1, 2025.  Paid time off for our military veterans, military years of service stipend, along with FTO and Officer in Charge stipend pay.  The Town provides its officers with multiple retirement options, including MainePERS Special Plan 3C (25yr, 66%, NO age), 457b, 401a with employer contribution, as well as Retirement Health Savings. Paid time off (vacation hours, available on your first day) consisting of 13 floating holidays, 10-16 hours/month vacation, 8 hours/month sick time as well as 32 hours/annually of personal time and compensatory time. Excellent low rate healthcare, dental, vision, income protection and other supplemental benefits are available, such as college stipend, tuition reimbursement and comprehensive wellness program.
