Scarborough Community Services is seeking an innovative Recreation Coordinator to plan, organize, and implement programs and activities for a wide range of age groups and customer needs. This position will assist staff and the department in the development of new programs, facilitate both in-house and contracted programming, input and monitor registrations to assist with communications and marketing, and evaluate programs on an ongoing basis. Work is performed under the supervision of the Recreation & Waterfront Manager, or his/her designee.
 
REQUIREMENTS OF WORK:  Bachelor’s degree in Recreation or any equivalent combination of training and experience. Considerable knowledge of a variety of recreational activities including traditional and non-traditional and the ability to direct them. Working knowledge of the techniques, rules, and materials and equipment needed for a variety of sports and athletic activities. Ability to lead activities, which may include bending, kneeling, reaching, and repeating various range-of-motion techniques. Knowledge of first aid and safety precautions used in recreation and athletic activities. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other Town and School staff. Ability to work effectively with customers with special needs. Ability to supervise and manage subordinate staff and volunteers. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Ability to work a flexible schedule which may include nights and weekends. Must hold a valid Maine driver’s license.
 
DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:  First Aid and CPR certified. Certification as a Recreational Professional (CPRP) through NRPA. Working knowledge of recreation software, such as Rectrac, MyRec, or CivicRec. CDL driver’s license with passenger endorsement; or willingness to obtain a CDL driver’s license within 6 months of hire. Salary range depending on experience: $51,376 - $54,662.
