Job Summary:
We are seeking a passionate and dynamic Recreation Programmer to join our team! This role involves planning, organizing, and overseeing recreational sports activities and events that promote wellness, teamwork, and community involvement. You’ll play a key role in creating engaging programs that cater to individuals of all ages and abilities. During the summer you will be part of our energetic team working with Summer Day Camp and sports camps.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, coordinate, and implement recreational sports programs.
- Help recruit, train, and manage volunteer coaches and officials.
- Schedule games, practices, and events while ensuring proper facility usage.
- Monitor and evaluate program effectiveness, making improvements as necessary.
- Maintain equipment inventory and ensure safety protocols are followed.
- Promote activities through social media, flyers, and community outreach.
- Provide excellent customer service to participants, parents, and community members.
- Fuel the Fun After Hours: Be the go-to person who brings energy and enthusiasm to our evening and weekend programs—where the community comes alive after the sun goes down.
Qualifications:
- Degree in recreation management, sports management, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Experience in planning and managing sports programs.
- Ability to work with diverse groups and age ranges.
- CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).

Benefits:
The Town of Wells offers a highly competitive compensation and benefits package. This is 30-39 hour per week position with a starting hourly rate of $21.51-$23.72 depending on experience. Benefits include Health, Dental, Short-Term Disability, Vision, Life Insurance, FSA, Educational Reimbursement, 457/401A matched retirement or Maine Public Employees Retirement (MainePERS), as well as an incentive-based Wellness Program.
