The Town of Kennebunk is accepting applications for a full-time School Resource Officer (SRO). The SRO is a sworn law enforcement officer assigned to a school on a long-term basis. The SRO is specifically trained in and performs three main functions: law enforcement officer; law related counselor; and law related educator. In addition, the SRO works in collaboration with the school and the community as a resource. The SRO is assigned with input from the RSU.

Position Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent required; college level training in social work, psychology and guidance desirable.
- Police Officer standard training certification required; advanced law enforcement training to include youth/juvenile related topics desirable.
- Crime prevention training background required.
- Two (2) or more year’s successful experience at the secondary school level as a teacher, resource officer and/or juvenile officer desirable.
- Three (3) years full-time law enforcement experience.
- Must possess or be able to obtain an approved School Resource Officer training certificate within a specified time.
- Any combination of education and work experience that provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential job functions may be considered.
Hours & Schedule
School Resource Officers work Monday – Friday during school hours. During school vacation breaks, the SRO will work a schedule that benefits the Police Department’s needs at the direction of the Chief of Police or designee. In the event of snow days or other school cancellations, SRO’s will work patrol duties as assigned by the shift supervisor.
Pay & Benefits
School Resource Officers are hourly, non-exempt, union positions, and KPD offers full-time certified law enforcement officers from Maine and beyond lateral starting pay and vacation commensurate with years of police service. The starting base pay range for an Officer with at least three years of law enforcement experience would be $34.21/hour - $40.01/hour. Employees are also eligible for Education Incentive Pay of $0.50 - $1.50 per hour based on the degree held. Officers also have opportunities for overtime.
