SUMMARY: An individual in the Data Entry Clerk position must be willing and able to work within a police department setting; processing, typing and/or filing extremely unpleasant or offensive material and maintaining confidentiality in the performance of all duties. Applicants should have the ability to successfully interact with a diverse range of people with the ability to listen carefully and respond tactfully in all situations.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: A high school diploma or equivalent is required. Must have experience with and knowledge of office equipment, computer applications and databases. Should display attention to detail, excellent customer service and effective communication skills. Must be able to pass an extensive criminal background check. Possess or able to obtain: Certified Terminal Operator (as certified by the Maine Criminal Justice Academy), Notary Public, and Constable designation.
WORK ACTIVITIES: Provide support and assistance to police personnel, the general public and organizations/agencies regarding police records. Performs a variety of tasks associated with maintaining, entering and inspecting police records for accuracy in various databases. Assists in preparing court documents. Collects parking fines and scofflaw violations and maintains accurate files on payment information. Tabulates all receipts on a daily basis and prepares treasurer’s receipts for deposits. Reviews concealed weapons permit applications with applicants, takes applicant photographs and fingerprints, as needed. Performs other duties as assigned.
