The City of South Portland is seeking a Part-time (19.5hr/week) Senior Program Assistant to join an innovative, proactive and dynamic workforce with a demonstrated commitment to excellence in municipal service in the Recreation Department. 

This is a non-union position that assists with the supervision and implementation of senior recreation programs and events and other tasks as assigned.  The schedule for this position will be Tuesday through Thursdays from 8:45 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. and Fridays from 8:45 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. On occasion longer hours may be needed on Fridays, so flexibility is important. 

Nature of Work: Provide a safe and enjoyable environment for seniors in the Senior Drop-In Center. Performs a variety of duties related to assisting and communicating with the public in regards to services offered by the Parks and Recreation Department.

Supervision Received/ Exercised: Work is performed in accordance with departmental rules and regulations and the City’s policy under the direction of the Senior Coordinator.

Education and Experience: High school diploma or equivalent required. Two to three (2-3) years or more of customer service, clerical support experience preferably in a public service setting preferred.

Must be mature, flexible and a good role model. Clean driving history is required.

Pay: The City of South Portland offers competitive pay, starting at $17.12/hour. The position is eligible for annual step increases, and possible annual cost of living increases as approved by the City Council. 

Hours: The hours will be 8:45 a.m.-3:00 p.m Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday and Fridays from 8:45 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.

Benefits: This part-time position is eligible for the Earned Paid Leave benefit only.
