The Town of Bucksport is accepting applications for the full-time position of Town Clerk & Registrar of Voters. This key administrative role serves as the official records custodian for the municipality, Secretary to the Town Council, and oversees the administration of all local, state, and federal elections. This is a professional-level position that operates with considerable independence under the general direction of the Town Manager and Finance Director.
The position offers a four-day workweek (Monday through Thursday), competitive salary based on experience, and a generous benefits package including health insurance (with family coverage), participation in the Maine Public Employees Retirement System (MainePERS), and ample paid time off.
Primary Responsibilities Include:

Maintaining, indexing, and safeguarding all official town records

Administering and overseeing all aspects of elections, including absentee voting, voter registration, ballot clerk appointment, and official reporting of results

Serving as Secretary to the Town Council, including attending meetings and preparing official minutes

Issuing a variety of state and municipal licenses and permits (e.g., marriage, dog, recreational vehicles, hunting/fishing)

Recording and reporting all vital records (births, deaths, marriages, and burials)

Processing accounts payable and assisting with financial reconciliation and reporting

Preparing and submitting monthly reports to appropriate state agencies

Providing excellent customer service at the front counter and over the phone

Administering oaths of office and ensuring compliance with legal posting and reporting requirements

Supervising and training the Deputy Clerk
Qualifications:

High school diploma or equivalent required; post-secondary coursework in office procedures or business administration preferred

Certification as a Certified Clerk of Maine (CCM) or Certified Municipal Clerk (CMC) preferred, or ability to obtain certification within a reasonable period

Previous experience in municipal government, records management, or election administration is strongly preferred

Familiarity with Maine statutes related to clerk duties and voter registration

Proficiency with Microsoft Office; experience with municipal software such as TRIO, DAVE, CVR, or MOSES is desirable

Excellent organizational, communication, and customer service skills

Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with municipal staff and elected officials
Compensation & Benefits:

Salary Range: $62,400 – $70,720 annually, depending on qualifications and experience

Work Schedule: Monday through Thursday, 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. (four-day workweek)
