The Town of Freeport is hiring a full-time Public Works Employee. We’re looking for a motivated, dependable individual with a strong work ethic, mechanical aptitude, and excellent customer service skills. This hands-on role involves operating light to moderately heavy trucks and equipment, performing manual labor, and supporting a variety of public works projects year-round.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operate trucks (up to 1-ton) and equipment such as loaders, backhoes, rollers, and sweepers.
- Perform road, bridge, drainage, and facility maintenance and repairs.
- Plow and sand roads, sidewalks, and parking lots during winter.
- Assist with loading/unloading materials and general labor tasks.
- Support other municipal departments as needed.
Position Requirements:
- Minimum age: 18
- Valid Maine driver’s license (Class B preferred)
- High school diploma or equivalent
- One year of relevant experience or equivalent training
- Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions
- Familiarity with Dig Safe rules, traffic laws, and safety practices
- Must pass a pre-employment physical and drug/alcohol screening
Job Details:
- Schedule: Monday - Thursday, 6:00am to 4:30pm
- Must be available for additional hours during wintertime operations.
- Starting Pay: $21.12/hour. CDL starting pay $24.48/hour.
