FULL-TIME FIREFIGHTER/EMT (Advanced or Paramedic) Two (2) Vacancies
The Town of Hampden is seeking applicants for a full-time Firefighter/EMT (Advanced or Paramedic) (Paramedic Preferred).
The Hampden Fire Department is a 16-member career department that provides fire suppression and EMS transport to over 7,700 residents. Our apparatus includes a pumper/tanker, quint, rescue, brush truck, two ALS ambulances, and a rescue boat.
Requirements:
- Licensed or eligible for reciprocity at the Advanced EMT or Paramedic level. Advanced EMT candidates must obtain their Paramedic license within 3 years (per IAFF Local 4903 Collective Bargaining Agreement).
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid Maine Driver's License (or ability to obtain).
- Pro Board FF I and II certification (or equivalent) desired.
- Ability to pass a background check, Hampden Fire Department Physical Agility Test, a written test, complete a job-related assessment center, and a medical exam.

Wages: The rate of pay for a firefighter/Paramedic is $29.98 to $36.45 (.$65,476.32–$79,606.80). A lateral entry may be considered based on training and experience.
Health Insurance: Maine Municipal Employees Health Trust PPO 2500 (Anthem) with 90% Med-A-Vision Plan. The Town pays 100% for the employee and 70% for a family plan.
Retirement: Maine Public Employees Retirement plan 3C, which includes 2/3 pay (with COLA) after 25 years of service with no minimum age; or MissionSquare. 401(a) defined contribution plan with a 10% employer contribution by the Town. The Town will contribute an additional .5% with an employee contribution to the MissionSquare. 457(b) plan.
Schedule: 42-hour work week. Shift pattern is 24 hours on duty, 24 hours off duty, 24 hours on duty, 5 days off duty. Off-duty callbacks and training are paid at 4 hours of overtime (minimum).
Vacation: Up to 240 hours per year based on years of service. Vacation time is available immediately at the discretion of the Director of Public Safety.
Holidays: 13 paid holidays
Sick Leave Incentive: The Town will make available retirement medical benefits offered under MissionSquare. Employees accrue 12 hours per month. Upon the employee accumulating and maintaining the maximum sick time hours of 1,008, the town will make contributions to a Health Retirement Account (HRA).
