The Town of Manchester is seeking a self-motivated and dependable individual to fill a full-time position (36 to 38 hrs).
The ideal candidate will have municipal experience, however candidates with comparable experience and skill sets are encouraged to apply.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- This person will be back-up for the Town Clerk
- Greets visitors, answers questions and providing information at customer window and/or by telephone;
- Serve as municipal registration agent for the State of Maine, and handle new registrations; and re-registrations; facilitates transfers of plates or issues new plates and stickers.
- Participates in the issuance of various licenses/permits and certificates, including; fishing/hunting, dog, ATVs, boats and snowmobiles;
- Processes payments for property taxes.
- Handles tax club payments and follow-up;
- Assists Treasurer in Lien Process;
- Maintains a daily cash drawer and balances money collected on a daily basis;
- Takes and transcribes minutes for Planning Board;
- Post Planning Board agendas and minutes to the website;
- Sorts and files material alphabetically, numerically or by other predetermined means for Code Enforcement;
- Operates standard office machines necessary to complete assignments and makes routine calculations by hand and machine in performing general figures of clerical work;
- Performs related work as may be required by the Town Manager/Treasurer.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements of Work:
- Considerable knowledge of office procedures and practices.
- Some bookkeeping and cash handling skills
- Ability to make minor decisions in accordance with laws, ordinances and regulations.
- Ability to make relatively complex mathematical computations rapidly and accurately.
- Ability to multi-task, deal with the public tactfully and courteously and to work harmoniously with other employees.
